About Me
Hi, I’m Michael, a hobby beekeeper from Vienna. Honey has fascinated me for a long time. As wonderful as it tastes, its origin remained a mystery to me for a long time. How do the different varieties come about? Does the beekeeper tell the bees where to fly?
When my dear friend Onita took me along to her bee colonies a few years ago, that sealed it. I wanted to know how to keep bees, and how to harvest the best honey. I found many answers at the Landesimkerschule Wien (Vienna Beekeeping School) and in my Imkerverein Donaustadt (Donaustadt Beekeeping Association) — but there’s still much to learn, and my library keeps growing.

My family supports me wholeheartedly with my hobby — my wife Elena sets the pace during extraction and bottling, and my daughter Victoria not only designed the illustrations for the labels but also helps with labeling itself.
So much for my hobby. Professionally, I’m a self-employed IT and business consultant — my company is IT-Debug Consult e.U.. There I work in a global, digital world — much of it abstract and virtual, and the pace is fast. I love these challenges — but they also need a counterbalance.
I found that counterbalance in beekeeping. Here nature sets the pace, and I can’t work against it. And when I watch my bees, I often wonder: “They know so much better than I do how it’s done. What’s going on in their heads, what matters to them?”
